I've been asked a lot lately why my shoots cost what they do. While yes I could add this into an FAQ, but this might take more than what is necessary for a simple explanation. I've explained it simply to people before and ended up having them still question my choices, and yet, it was pretty easy. This year the cost of my shoots went up to $40 for a 1 hour shoot for up to 5 people, and $55 up to 10 people. Here's the thing. Most photographers only want to work with 1-2, sometimes 4 people max and no more. Which is fine. But if you have a group that's around 10 people, finding a photographer willing to work with you and give you back enough photos of each person and the group as a whole can be tough. If you look through photoshoot advertisements in convention groups, you'll notice most say about 1-3 people for a shoot, and they'll charge extra for each person after 1. I charge $40 for up to 5. And $55 up to 10. Yes, I'm repeating myself, because sometimes I need to on certain aspects. There's a reason for this. It saves the group money! Many photographers charge around $50 for a single person, and then often $10-30 per extra person. That gets pretty costly when you could be a group over 3 people. And finding a photographer willing to work with your large group can be a nightmare. Group shoots can get really expensive for people. And truth be told, I really love working with groups! I can get quite the variety of shots and different interactions in group shoots. Honestly my favourite so far was the RWBY shoot I did with Breanna-Lee's group last year. I got a huge variety and we did two locations for the photoshoot. And split between all of them it was a super affordable shoot! I try to make it so that cosplayers can afford their shoots can get back a huge variety of photos. I do that because sometimes there's a shot that you don't like that the photographer gives back to you, so this way you can choose from the shots edited of what you want to use. I don't care if not all photos are used or posted or whatever, because honestly I've had fun with editing and you paid for them so you can do as you wish with them (just remember that crediting goes a long way!). As well the photographers that charge more for less, or the same for less photos, or whatever... most do shoots from first thing in the morning until the sun goes down. I do 3 photoshoots a day max. This is a side thing for me in addition to my cosplaying - which is why I'll be in cosplay while I'm shooting (90% of the time). So I honestly can't justify charging more for shoots with me. Naming Conventions: Yes, I've been asked about why I name my files the way I do instead of leaving them as "IMG_1234". This is a simple explanation. I have thousands upon thousands of photos on my computer. Honestly keeping them in their numbered states makes it harder if I need to find the file quick and can't find what folder I put it in. I often end up with many files coming up with the same number or similar when I do the search. Having files that are individually named for each shoot makes it much easier should I accidentally do something stupid with the folder the files are in. And everything gets named appropriately depending on what I'm shooting. I hope this has cleared things up.
