There are two updates here in this blog post! One involving a new camera, and the other about the cost of photoshoots.

Yes, this is admittedly in light of the recent fiasco of what happened on Twitter regarding well known cosplay photographer Martin Wong. I saw the post myself, and was quite disgusted with his apparent "joke". And his apology was not an apology.
I'm beginning to reconsider the photoshoot packages that I started for the new year. I will test run them at GAnime, and if they prove to not be as fruitful (as in, the cost of the shoot does not match well with the work), I may be doing away with them and going back to the old base pricing.
As well to be quite honest I am not sure if I can stick to the restrictions that I placed on the shoot packages. But we shall see how that goes. A sure change that I will be keeping after GAnime however is the requirement of a form being filled out for each photoshoot. This way I will know everyone's restrictions if there are any, the series, character(s), etc. This will make things much easier for me, as well the end of the form includes a model release. A lot of photographers seem to focus on getting the perfect photo. That perfect lighting, angle, composition and colour balance with each photo of who they're shooting with. This is perfectly fine and I'm not bashing anyone here in this post. This is about something that I personally try to achieve in the shoots that I do. Capturing memories.
Each photographer takes a different amount of time to give you back your photos and have them fully edited. There is no comparing them. But do make sure that who you book you're willing for the potential waits.
I've been asked a lot lately why my shoots cost what they do. While yes I could add this into an FAQ, but this might take more than what is necessary for a simple explanation. I've explained it simply to people before and ended up having them still question my choices, and yet, it was pretty easy.
This is rather irritating to have to explain over and over again, and I have seen fellow photographer friends say this until they are blue in the face. Always credit the photographer! Yes, it is important to credit the person that is actually in the photo, but you should also credit who took and edited the photo. This has come to arise from yet another time of where a photo I took was posted, but I was not credited. This time by a cosplay magazine, which is actually slightly more insulting. |
