There are two updates here in this blog post! One involving a new camera, and the other about the cost of photoshoots. Read on for more info. New Camera!First of all I have ordered my new camera, which is a brand new shiny Canon Rebel T7. I was hoping to get a new camera last year, but found no deals that fit my budget at the time, so I waited it out until this year. Originally I was going to order a Rebel T6, but on suggestion of my boyfriend, for only an extra $10, why not get the T7? So I ordered the camera last night, and today it's officially been shipped. At the time of ordering, the delivery estimate was for March 4th, the email I got today saying it has been shipped it will arrive tomorrow! Wow! The decision to order a new camera after all this time wasn't the easiest. In 2010, my parents bought was is my current camera, the Canon Rebel XS. It's a great camera. They bought it for me to bribe me to get my G1 (level 1 driver's license for those of you not in Ontario, Canada - we have 3 levels of license here!). A week later I wrote and passed the test, and was given the camera. It is now 2019, the camera has been dropped, banged, had the lens replaced once, and I can't tell you just how many lens caps I have gone through (which is why you never see the camera with it on, because I've probably had somewhere around 10 break). The camera has seen many conventions, photoshoots, and cosplay events, as well as other events and day to day life. And goodness knows I've used it to take lots of pictures of my cats. Because cats. What made the decision difficult to buy a new one was that the Rebel XS was from my parents, who bought it when they didn't really have a whole lot of money at that point of time, but they knew that it would benefit me for years in the long run. They have offered to give me my dad's camera (the exact same model but less used). Me being me, I continuously refused the offer, saying dad should keep his, and I can order my own seeing as I have saved up money to buy it. I had also posted on my Facebook a few days ago, saying about ordering a new camera. I will mention this here too. That if you want or able to, you can buy me a coffee on my ko-fi page to help the cost of the camera. If you are a cosplayer looking to book with me at either Anime North, YetiCon, or Otakuthon this year, the amount you donate to ko-fi would be discounted from the photoshoot cost! You can get to my ko-fi page from the footer of each page here on my website and just click the button "Buy me a coffee". Updated Photoshoot PricingI had announced in the fall about new photoshoot pricing with the introduction of photoshoot packages. I had to take time to reflect and review the amount of work that I put into photos, how many I give back, and what I feel I should charge. With this, I found that what I was charging for the packages was not going to work, and I know how I work all too well, and I cannot stay in such a tiny little frame for some of those packages. So consider the packages I introduced in the fall null and void. So as such, photoshoot pricing will now be the following (image will also be posted to Facebook in the next day or so): 1-3 people: $50 4-6 people: $80 7-10 people: $100 I love working with groups, and I know that often times it is difficult to find photographers that will take larger groups (the Dollicious group I shot from 2017 - featured bottom left in graphic). I tried to keep my pricing at a reasonable cost not just for me to make money to put towards the expenses of my conventions and time, but also make it an easy on the budget/wallet for cosplayers. I also am not a full time photographer with all the bells and whistles, so I find that this pricing works best for me as a person. 1 hour photoshoot remains the same, as this gives the proper amount of time to dedicate to a photoshoot - if it finishes early, well hey! More time for me and the cosplayer(s) to enjoy other aspects of the convention! I have always given back anywhere from 20-100 photos, so I am keeping this as I always have. I have never been able to give back a small amount of photos from when I have taken well over a few hundred. It's just not in me. And as usual, and this was not previously stated but I felt I better now, that all photos taken by me may be used on all forms of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc), and used for prints, as long as I am credited accordingly. A note specifically for prints: I will never ask for a percentage of your profits from print sales. I only ask you credit the fact that I took and edited the photo(s). Further shoot info is found HERE! Thanks for reading! I look forward to the new work I shall be doing starting this year!
