Each photographer takes a different amount of time to give you back your photos and have them fully edited. There is no comparing them. But do make sure that who you book you're willing for the potential waits. I know photographers who can start editing as soon as they're back in the hotel room, but I personally choose to wait until I'm home and don't have too much to worry about for the next day of the convention. Everyone has a different amount of time that they will dedicate to your photos. Before you book a photographer, even if you like the quality of their work, ask yourself, are you willing to do the potential wait? Some people want their photos back within a week. If you want a photographer who can do that, book them. By all means book with that photographer. Some can wait a few weeks for their photos. This is about average. This is the average you will get with photographers. There are photographers that will take months to give you back even a single photo though. Some take 3-8 months to give you back your photos. Personally I think this is a bit insane and that's quite the long time to edit photos and this only creates a major backlog. I'm not saying that I'm by any means a fast editor when it comes to photos - as each shoot can require a very different look. Example: These two shoots were done in the same weekend, in locations that aren't even a five minute walk from each other. For Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, because of the style of the series and how bright it is, bright and colourful and soft is the look that is require for this photoshoot for the editing. Don't Starve is a Tim Burton-esque video game where you need to survive in the wilderness, and because of the style of the game, I had to go with muted colours for editing and slightly darker tones. Every shoot will require something different for the editing. It also depends too on what a cosplayer might ask the photographer to edit. Even out skin tone? Smooth the skin? Remove blemishes? Hide things that couldn't be hidden? Change backgrounds? Each thing takes a different amount of time - and some photographers are even much faster at some edits than another might be. For myself I always aim to have at least 4 photos out and posted to Facebook and Flickr for each shoot after a convention in the following week. How long the photos take after that depends on a variety of things:
The Pharah shoot took place back in April at Costume Con 35. I had the first few photos posted for her in the week following the conference. I finally got the final photos done in the past few weeks. This one above took the most time due to how much I had to do for this edit - like getting it to work the way I wanted.
Major edits take major time. Sometimes even just the amount of photos that have to be edited. Many photographers set a limit of how many you'll get back from them. Some only 5, 5-10, 15, 20, or 25 photos. I myself am insane and give back however many I feel turned out the best. They may not all be gems, but I give back what had the best results. But again I'll note for you, you may like a photographer's work yes, but keep in mind of how long you may have of a wait - especially if you don't like waiting an extended period of time!
